The Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal, proudly situated within District 3240 and Zone 6, is celebrating a remarkable milestone: its 15th anniversary.
Rtn. Laila Gathphoh, our visionary founding president, played a pivotal role in establishing the club. With her unwavering commitment and the collaboration of like-minded young professionals from diverse fields, the Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal was officially launched. Rtn. Naorem Romesh, our inaugural secretary, provided essential leadership in those formative years. The foundation of our club was strengthened by the invaluable guidance and mentorship of esteemed senior Rotarians, including PDG Irom Ajit and Rtn. Dr. Dhabali, alongside other respected members of the Rotary Club Imphal. Their wisdom and support were instrumental in empowering our young Rotarians to lead with confidence and purpose.
Thanks to this strong foundation and our relentless dedication, the Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal has emerged as one of the most dynamic and inspiring clubs within Rotary District 3240. As a testament to the outstanding performance of our Club’s activities and the dedication of our Rotarians, we are proud to announce that three Assistant Governors (AGs) have been selected from our Club so far. The first AG was Rtn. Laila Gathphoh in the year 2015-16, followed by Rtn. Arunkumar Thangjam in 2018-19, and most recently, Rtn. Salam Sachhidanand Singh for the year 2025-26, representing our newly established Club.
For over 15 years, including the current year, our club has passionately engaged in impactful community service projects under the auspices of Rotary India. Our initiatives span crucial areas such as educational support, healthcare programs, and disaster relief, making a significant difference in the lives of many. Each Rotary year brings forth remarkable achievements that demonstrate our commitment to service.
We Rotarians meet weekly every Thursday at 6:00 PM to strategize and discuss our upcoming community service projects. These meetings foster collaboration and inspire action, followed by a fellowship session that strengthens the bonds and camaraderie among Rotarians. Together, we have realized several exceptionally successful projects, which include:
- On February 15, 2015, we proudly hosted a Mega Health Camp at Karang Island in the Bishnupur District, providing essential medical care to approximately 150 patients. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing community health and well-being.
- On July 1, 2015, under the powerful theme “Donate Blood, Save Lives,” our Blood Donation Camp at RIMS galvanized the support of 42 generous donors with the inspiring slogan “Be a Lifesaver.” This event not only saved lives but also fostered a spirit of altruism within our community.
- Demonstrating our dedication to environmental stewardship, we launched a Tree Plantation Program on August 2, 2015, at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Yaralpat, Imphal-East. With the motivating theme “Go Green Manipur” and the rallying cry “Plant Trees to Save the Environment and Earth,” around 25 Rotarians, 5 media personnel, and 60 enthusiastic students and teachers united to plant approximately 100 saplings, enhancing the school campus and contributing positively to our planet.
- Recognizing the pressing health needs during challenging times, we organized a one-day free Health Camp cum Awareness Program at Lukhambi in Noney, Tamenglong District, on April 16, 2016, where we successfully treated around 150 patients and more, ensuring vital health services reached those in need.
- In response to the unprecedented lockdown, we mobilized resources to distribute essential food items on May 1, 2020, to various communities in Imphal East, including Chingmeirong, Wangkhei, Khurai, Arnath Ashram, Purana Rajbari, Khurai Thoudam Leikai, near Baruni Hill, and other areas. This initiative provided crucial support to those facing hardship during this difficult period.
- Our commitment to caring for the vulnerable continued on December 1, 2024, when we distributed essential items at the Langol Old Age Home in Lamphel, Imphal, with the dedicated involvement of 15 compassionate members, ensuring our elderly community members received the support they deserve.
- On February 23, 2025, we celebrated “World Rotary Day” by organizing another impactful Blood Donation Camp at Rotary Bhawan, Mantripukhri, Imphal. Over 39 selfless donors stepped forward to help, exemplifying the power of community spirit and the profound impact of giving.
Together, these initiatives highlight our ongoing commitment to health, the environment, and social responsibility, inspiring all to take part in making a difference in our communities.
